Corrosion qualification for GCC coastal service
Salt Spray & Pitting Corrosion Testing
Validate machined, welded and coated components against the demanding chloride exposure found along the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea coasts. PartsMake provides in-house and independent salt spray programmes with traceable results for your materials, finishes and project requirements.

Why qualify for the region?
Coastal exposure can challenge even established material choices.
High ambient temperatures, airborne chlorides and repeated wetting from seawater mist can accelerate pitting on stainless and carbon steels. Standard 316L may show early attack in these conditions; Super Duplex 2507 and nickel alloys also need documented performance evidence before site acceptance.
Test the complete configuration
Assess the specified alloy together with its machining, weld overlay, passivation or coating condition—not the material name alone.
Keep evidence traceable
Link each result to the part number, material heat and surface-treatment batch for review by project teams and inspectors.
Standards-led testing
NSS and CASS protocols, matched to the qualification need
Choose the exposure method and duration that align with your specification. Assessments record first red rust, blister size and corrosion creep from scribes using the stated rating references.
ASTM B117 neutral salt spray
NSS uses a 5% NaCl solution at 35 °C. Test panels and finished parts are exposed for 500, 1,000 or 2,000 hours, according to the agreed qualification plan.
Recorded assessment
First red rust, blister size and scribe creep, evaluated with reference to ASTM D1654 and ISO 4628-2/3.
Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray
CASS adds copper chloride and acetic acid to increase test aggressiveness. Typical exposure durations are 240 and 480 hours, using the salt spray chamber.
Comparable reporting
Record first red rust, blister size and scribe creep against ASTM D1654 and ISO 4628-2/3 for review against the project acceptance criteria.
Test capability
Controlled exposure, supported by inspection records
Temperature-controlled cabinets are monitored continuously for pH, salt concentration and chamber temperature. After exposure, calibrated microscopes and digital photography support evaluation.
Track chamber conditions
Continuous monitoring of pH, solution concentration and temperature during exposure.
Document visible performance
Use calibrated microscopy and photographs to record rust, blistering and corrosion creep.
Connect results to the supplied batch
Log results against heat and batch numbers, then cross-reference EN 10204 3.1 material certificates and CMM inspection data.
Validated materials and finishes
Evidence for demanding component specifications
The material and finish configurations listed have completed 2,000 hours NSS and 480 hours CASS with zero red rust and no blistering or under-film corrosion.
Results apply to the tested configurations. Confirm the required finish, acceptance criteria and exposure plan for each order.
- Super Duplex 2507 and 2205 After passivation
- Inconel 625 and 718 With and without ENP
- 316L Electropolished or hard anodised
- Carbon steel With Inconel weld overlay
- Aluminium 7075-T6 Type III hard coat
Reports with every batch
A clear record for quality review and site acceptance
Each order includes a corrosion test summary with exposure hours, visual rating and photographs. Where required, independent laboratory reports from ISO 17025 facilities in the UAE or KSA can be attached.
Report traceability includes
- Exact part number and material heat
- Surface-treatment batch
- Exposure duration, visual assessment and photographs
- Applicable test and rating references
